Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation is one of Dr. Veligdan's most popular sedation dentistry techniques. It involves taking pills about an hour before your appointment to achieve a level of relaxation and near-sleep during your treatment. Although you will be awake, many patients feel as if they have slept through the visit, as they don't usually have any memory of it. You will need to be driven to and from your appointment by a friend or family member, but the sedative should wear off a short time after your appointment. Oral conscious sedation is often used when more than one treatment must be performed at the same time because it can take hours at the dentist seem like minutes.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a method of sedation dentistry that enhances your level of comfort and relieves any anxiety you may feel at the dentist's office. Inhaled through a face mask, nitrous oxide only lasts as long as you are breathing it, allowing you to become awake and alert only minutes after your appointment is complete. You will be able to drive yourself home afterward. Nitrous oxide sedation can be used alone or in conjunction with the oral sedative for a deeper, more restful sedation dentistry experience at our Manhattan office.
Coping with Dental Phobia
Dr. Veligdan and his team want to ensure that your dental experience is positive in every respect. An initial consultation with the doctor will give you a chance to ask questions and address the concerns you have. There are a few ways we can help you prepare for a dental appointment:
- Meeting with Dr. Veligdan before your treatment appointment will give you a chance to get to know him and discuss any concerns.
- Ask us questions! Understanding your dental condition and the corresponding treatment will give you a better sense of involvement in your care and can eliminate any anxiety you may be experiencing.
- Ask about our technological alternatives. Beyond providing sedation dentistry, our Manhattan office is equipped with some of dentistry's best tools. With Waterlase® and other laser technology, we can perform virtually painless procedures.
